The Department of Economics has
been a cornerstone of our college since its inception in 1964, beginning with
the first batch of the Humanities stream. It became a fully-fledged department
in 1968 when the college was elevated to a senior institution. Under the
visionary leadership of the first Principal, Rev. Msgr. Peter Uralil, the
Department laid a strong foundation for academic excellence. The introduction
of the B.A. Degree Programme in Economics in the same year marked a significant
milestone, with Rev. Dr. Simon Kottoor serving as the first Head of the
Department.
Over the years, the Department
has grown in stature and legacy, having nurtured 50 batches of undergraduate
students. It proudly maintains a vibrant and active Alumni Association, which
played a key role in organizing the Department’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The Department is committed to
the holistic development of its students, regularly organizing a wide range of
academic and extracurricular activities. Since 2007, it has been offering
Department viz; Artha Fiesta. Which
include All Kerala Intercollegiate Debate Competition, Intercollegiate Cultural
Fest etc.
At present, the Department is led
by Dr. Thomas K C (Vice Principal & Head of the Department), and supported
by faculty members Sri. Prince Joseph and Ms. Anjitha Mariya Martin (Guest
