The Department of
Commerce at St. Stephen’s College, Uzhavoor, has a rich legacy of academic
excellence and progressive development. Established in 1966 with a Pre-Degree
Commerce batch, it became a Graduate Department in 1981 and was elevated to a
Postgraduate Department in 1998. In 2022, it achieved the status of an approved
Research Centre under Mahatma Gandhi University, enabling students to pursue
doctoral studies in Commerce.
The department is
staffed by a team of experienced and dynamic faculty members dedicated to
academic excellence and personalized mentorship, fostering a vibrant and

On 8th June 2018, A session on CAT, MAT and GMAT was taken by Mr. Alexander from Career Launcher, Kottayam for IIIrd year Degree students.
A talk on General Banking Awareness Small Finance Concept was given by Mr. Abin Philip ,Branch Head ESAF as part of their financial literacy programme was organised.
State Level Workshop on Data Analysis in Social Sciences in association with MG University was conducted on 28th ,29th ,&30th June .Dr Ramesh B Nair renowned statistician was the resource person
On 11th & 12th July 2018, National Seminar on Innovative Trends in Insurance in association with Kottayam Insurance Institute and M.G.University.
National Level Paper Presentation Competition was held on 14th August 2018 . Around 40 participants submitted their papers and 12 participants who got selected presented their papers in the final round.
A Skype conference on FX war & Rupee was held for P.G students at Media centre on 12/09/2018
Association Inaugration and freshers day was held on 29/09/2018.
Alumni meet of the department was held on 2/10/2018. Former faculties and around 100 former students participated in the event
A session on online trading by Vinod Chandran of Geojith Securities was held on 23/10/2018.
One day joint seminar on Goods & Service Tax and CA Career counselling Programme was organised for the students by Ernakulam branch of ICAI on 12th Dec 2018.
3rd year Degree students went for tour on13th Dec to Uduppi and Coorg
Two day Workshop on Research Methodology for Second year P.G Students was conducted on 18th and 19th January 2019. Dr. P.S. Ajith , Assosiate Professor,SAS SNDP College handled the session. 14M.Com Students from DevaMatha College, Kuravilangad also participated in the workshop.
10th Silver Jubilee Memorial Lecture Series was held on 31st January 2019 in the Seminar Hall .Dr V.J.Joseph (Former Ceo and MD of South Indian Bank delivered the talk.
The college on behalf of department signed an MOU with ENBRIG for providing Certificate Course in Microsoft Excel. All the students of 3rd year and 2nd year participated in the course and appeared for the exam conducted by Micro Soft Excel.
The association was able to organise an Inter Collegiate Commerce Quiz competition Commera 2019 on February 8th 2018, the first ever of its kind. Teams from 18 colleges participated in the event. Prizes worth Rs 17,000 was given to the winners. St. Thomas College Pala won the first prize followed by two teams from SB College Changanacherry. The association was able to conduct the program in a grand manner.
The Commerce Cultural Fiesta a venue to exhibit the talents of the students was held on 8th February 2019 afternoon in the Seminar Hall. The students of the department participated in the fest on class wise basis. The M.Com students bagged the overall championship in the fest.
The final year M.Com Students went for a 2day tour to Ooty on 22/2/2019.
