Achievements 2018-19

  • Faculty

  • Ms. Tina Jose assisted our alumni with subtitles for the trending & prize-winning youtube short film Kunni (2019), developed a question bank for S1+S2 Business Communication, attended a W.W.S. Workshop for Internal Mentors at Govt. College, Nattakom, Tina Jose attended Refresher Course (online), presented a paper. Women without Men: A Tale of Women in the Islamic Republic of Iran at Socioint, 5th International Conference on Education, Social Sciences and Humanities , Dubai, presented a paper. Reading Austen in Iran: An Analysis of how Azar Nafisi and her Class were able to use Austen to Cope with Their Everyday Reality in Reading Lolita in Tehran  at I.I.T., Chennai, is a Board member of the journal St. Peters Journal of Multi-Disciplinary Studies, article published in the online news portal woodpeckernews Vismayapikunna Armenian Kazhchakal, article was published in Yatra magazine entitled Uzbekintay Ullarinju, assisted in the publication of study material for S1 and S2 General English, was co-author of Wings of Words, anthology by Bookfever, assisted with scripting for the dance choreography Itihaas Era of the Empires, & acted as Chief Examiner for University Examinations (C.B.C.S.) & Assumption College, Changanacherry. 

  • Mr Jimmy James is a Member of the U.G. Board of Studies (English), was awarded a Certificate of Merit for being an Outstanding N.S.S. Programme Officer, the N.S.S. Unit being given the Best N.S.S. unit of M.G. University, a Key resource person in S2, S3 &S4 Question Banks, resource person of a three-day workshop on Syllabus Restructuring for the P.G. Curriculum in Physical Education, acted as Editor of the S5 core course and attended an Orientation Course (online).

  • Ms Bindu Cherian was Chief Examiner for University Examinations (C.B.C.S.) & Assumption College, Changanacherry, and was involved in question paper setting of S6 for Kerala University and Assumption College, Changanacherry.

  • MsNisha Kumari N. assisted in the publication of study material for S1 and S2 General English.

Students

  • 3 of our students were elected to the college council (Chairman, Lady Rep, 1st Year Rep.) 

  • The students won prizes for face painting, debate, patriotic song, speech & literary quiz at various colleges. 

  • Jipsa Maria Joy and a team of 6th semester English were selected to the M.G. University Ball Badminton Team. 

  • The students worked tirelessly to collect funds towards helping with flood relief 

  • 2nd-year students collected and distributed sacks of rice to Akasaparavukal during the months of April-May 2018.

  • On request, 2nd-year students helped a few poor school students buy textbooks.

  • 2nd-year students, in conjunction with the department, helped a cancer patient pay for expenses.

Faculty

  • Mr Jimmy James published Dalit Spirituality in Gift in Green by Sarah Joseph in the journal Aureole, St. Stephens College, Uzhavoor (ISSN:2249-7862), presented a paper Naga Women from Tribal Folktales to Modern Novels: A Case Study of Easterine Kire and Women Empowerment Through Literature at St. Xaviers College for Women, Aluva, participated in a State-level seminar on Higher Education at Thiruvananthapuram, acted as a Resource Person at the NSS Seven Day Special Camp at the Higher Secondary School, Koothattukulam, Conducted a 1-day camp at Balapanchayath, Palakuzha Grama Panchayat, Ernakulam, & acted as a Resource Person at the NSS Orientation Programme at Alphonsa College, Pala. 

  • Ms Tina Jose presented a paper, Redefining the Female in Iran: A Feminist Reading of Women without Men, at Baby John Memorial Govt. College, Kollam, published Redefining the Female in Iran: A Feminist Reading of Women without Men in the journal JET of Assumption College, Changanacherry (ISSN: 2374-3874) as well as Ranipadmini: A Departure from the Stereotype in Malayalam Cinema in the journal Aureole, St. Stephens College, Uzhavoor (ISSN:2249-7862), completed MOOC from University of Iowa entitled Power of the Pen: Identities and Social Issues in Poetry and Plays, invited to speak on blogging for the inaugural event Chempakachottil Chayavattom hosted by BCM College, Kottayam & acted as Chief Examiner at Assumption College, Changanacherry. 

  • Ms Christina Romeo published two papers, Siting the Web: The Neo-Counterculture of Creative Resistance through Internet Trolls & Remapping the Boundaries: Emergence of Local Color Realism in Malayalam Cinema, in the International Journal IJELH, & participated in the State-level Best Dissertation competition at Kozhikode.

  • Mr Abhijith M.S. presented a paper Breaking the codes of Rebellion: A Deconstructive Simplification of Sarah Kanes Cleansed at Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu and also Severing of Roots in a Quest to Assimilate: Aravaan as a Tragic Hero at MCC Mariagiri, Kanyakumari. 

  • Ms Taniamol Chacko took a one-day class on Personality Development at St. Marys LP School, Thenmala.        

Students

  • Rosha B. Roy secured the first rank in the University examinations for B.A. English Model II (Administrative Assistant).

Binu Peter of S6 English brought fame to our college by winning numerous medals & trophies. Some of them are:

  • 2nd in All Kerala Senior Athletics Meet, 3000m steeplechase

  • 2nd in MG University Cross-country Championship, 12km Road Run

  • 2nd in MG University Athletics Championship, 800 m

  • 2nd in MG University Athletics Championship, 3000m steeplechase

  • 2nd in Pink Marathon, Kochi (10 km)

  • 1st in World Account Day Marathon, Infopark (5 km)

  • 1st in the marathon by Caritas Hospital (5 km)

  • 1st in mini-marathon (10 km) by CPI (M) district committee

  • 1st in Run Thrissur Run (5 km)

  • 3rd in Rubber City Run, Kottayam (10 km)

  • 2nd in Rubfila Marathon, Palakkad (5 km)

  • Participated in All India Inter-University Athletics Guntur 8th place in finals

Achievements 2016-17

FACULTY

  • In a tie-up with the Department of Economics, Ms Geena John is involved in PSC Coaching.

  • Ms Sruthy Elsa Jose has passed the TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) Band 3 of the four bands, conducted by Cambridge University.

  • Mr Jimmy James acquired a Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication and M.A. in History. He is involved in several outreach programmes connected with the NSS unit of the college.

  • Ms Tina Jose helped with the subtitling of the documentary Azhivu. She is the casting director for Abey Kallisserils music videos.

  • Ms Navitha Jose is the editor of the monthly magazine Science Way. She conducts classes for the Jesus Youth students of Ramapuram.

STUDENTS

  • Four of our students were elected to the College Union (Arts Club Secretary, Vice-Chairperson, Magazine Editor and University Union Councillor). 

  •  Binu Peter of S3 English won several prizes in athletics. They are listed below:

  • 4th place at the university-level cross country race leading to participation at the national level meet held in Mangalore

  • 5th place at the state-level inter-club 5000m athletics championship

  • 1st place in the cross-country championship

  • 2nd place in the cross-country championship

  • Gold medal in the cross-country championship held at Ernakulam in December 2016.

  •  Johnys P. Stephen won 2nd place in the sub-district Malayalam speech competition conducted by a co-operative bank.

  • Three of our students Rosha B. Roy, Johnys P. Stephen and Alexander Cyriac participated in the UN Replica conducted by Labour India College, Marangattupally.
