INAUGURATION

 

 

On 8 September 2016 the English Association Pegasus' activities for the year 2016-17 were inaugurated by former HOD and Dronacharya Awardee Prof. Sunny Thomas. Freshers’ day was also held for the first years, the same day. 

READING DAY

          Reading Day was conducted on 20 June 2016 as part of Vayanadinam celebrations. Books were introduced to the students by the faculty. Faculty member Tina Jose and Arya S. Rethnakaran of S3 English, presented their upcoming books to the gathering. A reading competition was held for the students in both English and Malayalam. The Librarian Jassimuddin S. also informed the audience of the upcoming programme Face-a-book Challenge.

TALKS

On 14 June 2016 entrepreneur Joice Jose held a career-orientation and placement class for S5 open course students. Drama artist Deepak Ravindran conducted a class on Performing Arts in June 2016.

BOOK RELEASE

Faculty member Tina Jose released her debut publication, an anthology of poems, entitled Docile No More on 1 August 2016. The principal Dr. Mercy Philip C. released the book.

ORIENTATION

First year students were provided with an orientation soon after their classes commenced.

TEACHER’S DAY 

 Teachers’ Day was celebrated by the students of the department on 5 September 2016, honouring and acknowledging the faculty members. 

FACE-A-BOOK CHALLENGE

The department, in conjunction with the Department of Oriental Languages and the Library, conducts Face-a-book Challenge on a periodical basis. In this programme, faculty and students present a book to the audience, which is followed by questions and discussions. 

CLASS  PTA

 

To facilitate the smooth running of the association and to promote a healthy rapport with its family members, meetings with students and their parents were arranged.

 


WALL MAGAZINE & BLOG

Space has been provided on the department blog and class walls for students of each semester to promote their creative faculty and writing skills.

MOVIE SCREENINGS

Students of our general classes (S3) were treated to a viewing of the classic movie Macbeth on 26 July 2016.  The students of the department are also being shown movies across the semesters, based on their syllabus. These include Things Fall Apart, Mother of 1084, Akele, etc.


REMEDIAL TEACHING

 Remedial teaching is being provided as per the needs of students. It is meant not only for the English main students but those who belong to other disciplines as well. 

 

VISIT TO BALBHAVAN

 S3 students conduct periodical visits to Balabhavan to help the children learn English speaking and other life skills.

 

CLASS TOUR

The final year students had their tour from 1-5 December 2016, visiting Mysore and Coorg.
